Bhutan Cancer Society
Empowerment through Knowledge & Hope

Dema-Our intern from FNPH

My experience at BCS.

When I was younger and lost my grandpa to cancer, I vowed that I will have to solve this mystery because I couldn’t do anything for him; dream too big for a little girl, however fire within me kept burning. That was a wake up call for me. Solving it wasn’t possible but I achieved something greater in the process of doing internship at Bhutan Cancer Society. It was one of the most cherished moment in my life; not only did I understand the pain, cancer patients and caregivers go through but it also reminded me of death, something which is inevitable yet we often forget about.
Frankly, it was the most painful journey. There are days I become hopeless and turn numb having to face the reality; it has its brutal way of bringing the bad news of “death” almost all the time. At the same time, the satisfaction I got from doing it was unfathomable. My internship there wouldn’t be complete if I do not thank the director ma’am and other three staffs who were kind enough to help us through this challenging process. Kudos to them for working tirelessly.
